I am trying to see if DISTILLED WATER MAKER (waterwise) is better than or the same as, MINERAL WATER sold in shops. Mining Effluents normally are acidic with pH values lower than 5. Treating it with lime solves the problem however it increase the concentration of Total Disolved Solids resulting to the exceedance of Water Quality Standards. Putting up a filtration process is not economically feasible since the wastewater / effluent volume ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 cubic meters. Establishing or amending the effluent standard would take sometime as all the criteria , environmental & ecological and health impacts must be evaluated and assessed. I am looking for a standard way of ranking the quality of a wetland. I assume this would have something to do with Biological diversity within the wetland, water storage etc. Does anyone know of standards similar to this and if so where and who has created those standards.

I am doing a project that I hope will eventually lead to me quantifying the value of individual wetlands within the study area. I could come up with my own scale but would rather go with an industry standard if one exists.

As a renewable resource, the continued extration of ground water continues to deplete Natural supply. The recycling of this spent water, to be recharged back into the ground, is not only inefficient, but, a questionable practice. it has been done as a conventional method, the path of least resistance, dilution. Your Point is well taken, but a point that leads right back to its very existance, how many times before the recharged ratio offsets the conventional theory of dilution. Recycled water is not of a quality which is humanly safe with extended consumption. However, it is safe and sound for other applications.
