how to care for a fish that escaped death by very poor water quality.
I recently posted a question and someone told me to post a question for my other fish.
Does anyone know the effects of coal soot in water? Does it change the pH or the hardness of the water? If the emissions of the coal burning facility (in this case a coal furnace for ones house) were directly injected into a water supply how would that affect it? Would it kill things or would there be an algal bloom due to the high amounts of CO2? Im doing an experiment in which I WANT an algal bloom. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
1. Where do I go to find out lake water quality?
2. What criteria do I use to evaluate the quality of the water? How do I guage if the water is good? What should I look out for?
It appears to have a crystalized buildup around the hose, somewhat dirty inside the tub where I pour salt, etc.

I have been told that in Florida they daily spray insecticides and herbicides along the sides of all the roads in. Also that the ground water there is now polluted because of it and digging a well does not guarantee good water. Is this true? I am thinking of moving there and I want to get this cleared up before I make my decision.

We have tried the Baquacil system, but didn’t like the smell that it left on us when we got out. Also, it seemed to foam up a lot. Any suggestions?
