Testing Home Water Filtration System. the Experiment
I am sure that your water is not as pure as it could be. It is good to check your system for your family to be getting the benefits of your investment.
It is of a moderate easy difficulty.
You have to run some tap water into a clear glass and look closely at it in the light. Check whether it is clear or discolored. Are there any segments in the water?
You also have to smell the water. If there is a smell of chlorine like the one in the swimming pool, is usual if you have city water supply. But if there is other smell like the one of the rotten eggs, indicates that you have to change your filter cartridges.
Ask if any of the family members have unexpected health problems, especially when the symptoms are the same. Diarrhea, stomach cramps, and other gastrointestinal complaints are indicatives of bacteria or other microorganisms in the water.
Another step that you should do is to taste the water – whether it is salty or unpleasant in taste. It is a good idea to check places like drains, fixtures, and porcelain items like toilets and tubs. Are there any red, blue, or brown staining?
You have to call the company that sold you the filter. There are some companies that can even come to your home and test the system for you.
If the water test indicates a need for a filtration system, carefully read all the instructions and monitor the system carefully. You need to replace the filter cartridge on schedule, in most cases every 6 months.
Look at your owner’s manual for recommendations about the specific model. The owners of private wells are by themselves responsible for their own quality. You have to test the water frequently.
The things that you are going to need are clear drinking glasses, water purifiers and water filters.
